Original research · methods and data included

The finding first. Then everything you need to check it.

These are our FoodSussed studies on food processing in Ireland and the UK. Each one shows the result in plain English, then the source, method, limits and downloadable data.

· 127 selected Irish protein products

Irish protein products and processing levels

121 of 127 selected products met FoodSussed Level 4 rules. A protein label did not tell us how processed a product was; the ingredient declaration did.

This was a selected sample for Irish shoppers, not every product on Irish shelves. It was not random or sales-weighted, and a processing level is not a health or safety score.

· 28,901 scored UK-tagged records

UK protein wording and processing levels

719 of 876 records with broad protein wording met FoodSussed Level 4 rules. The public dataset also includes the wider scored subset used for category comparisons.

Only 28,901 of 186,787 UK-tagged public food-database records were scored. This contributor-built subset is not the UK food market, is not sales-weighted and does not show cause and effect.

· 3,632 records across four headline cohorts

Christmas foods and January-style messages

Most records in each separate cohort met Level 4 rules. The shares ranged from 81% to 94% across Christmas foods and foods with messages such as high protein, low fat or light.

Ireland and the UK used different sources, so this is not a country ranking. The samples include variants and incomplete source coverage, and the results are not national estimates.
